Whether through his work or his personal life, Fred believed deeply in reaching out to those in need. He even gave when there was so much more that he seemingly needed. About four months before Fred died he was having a very tough hospitalization. Despite doctor’s orders, he got out of bed and began a slow walk down the hospital corridor. He ran into a friend who told Fred that his daughter was very sick from treatments for her leukemia. The father said in tears “She says she can’t take this anymore and wants to give up”. Fred went in to see the young woman, sat by her bed and spoke to her at length about why and how she needed to fight to keep on living; she listened to Fred. After that, she went into remission.
Fred believed that the most important thing we can do for people is to help them find within themselves hope for the future and the courage to keep going. He was also passionate about protecting children, our societies most precious and vulnerable members.
The G. Fred DiBona Memorial Foundation will follow in Fred’s Footsteps by continuing his philosophy efforts and vision. The foundation will support projects that help foster human growth and improve the quality of life for people in the community. Please help us to follow in Fred’s footsteps by bringing hope to families with sick children and helping them to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
